Experimental Approaches to the Study of Language: Acquisition, Use and Loss
Stefano Rastelli
Abstract
This volume puts together seven essays dealing with crucial areas of advanced
experimental research on language acquisition, use and loss. The chapters of
the volume are written by experts in the field of psycholinguistics and
neurolinguistics. The authors describe five experimental techniques: event-
related potentials, functional neuroimaging, transcranic magnetic stimulation,
eye-tracking and behavioural procedures. Beside providing practicioners with
a valuable up-to-date theoretical background, all contributes also aim at giving
non-specialist researchers and phd students the basic notions and some crucial
methodological guidelines for designing and running experiments with both
behavioral and physiological data. The volume may thus be useful as either a
reference book or an introductory coursebook for students.
STEFANO RASTELLI is Assistant Professor at the University of Pavia. His main areas
of research interest are second language acquisition and second language processing
of syntactic phenomena.
